"This was our second year on the Cape and we have booked through Sunset Reflections both times. This was our first year in Ooh La La (we wanted it last year but it was booked for the week we needed). We take a sibling family vacation yearly consisting of my two brothers, one SIL, my hubby and 6 kids. This year, we had 2 additional kids as the oldest girls (college age) brought friends, so 13 of us total. We had 4 vehicles and the description isn't joking about limited parking. It was difficult at best.
Ooh La La has plenty of room for everyone and has 2 "living" areas which allows for adults and kids to have separate space which is nice. The decor is just gorgeous, love the owner's taste - just perfect. The kitchen has plenty of storage space and is well stocked with (nearly) everything you need. We cooked nearly every day so made full use of the kitchen and were very pleased with the amenities. All that we found missing were a functional corkscrew and scissors. We bought a new corkscrew which we left as our contribution and got by just fine with knives in place of scissors, problems solved!
The screened in porches were a really nice addition until it rained. We had a couple of days of rain (not too heavy) after which the no see ums were out and loved the porch on the middle level (pesky little boogers). The one real problem with the porches is the slope on them is in the wrong direction so the water runs toward the house rather than away causing them to flood when it rains. Would have been nice to sit in them and read a book while listening to the rain, but you would get soaked.
The bottom level has a lot of space to sit and a nice area for kids/young adults to hang out and watch tv. There was also a really good selection of videos and our kids had no trouble finding movies to watch at night or in rainy days. The layout downstairs seems backward, though. The bathroom is on the front side of the house causing you to have to walk through the house to use the restroom from the pool. The floors are painted concrete so damp feet slip easily...we had more than one fall but no one injured. Also, this bathroom has 2 showers which is a nice touch, but there were 6 of us sharing this bathroom, more when we were all in the pool so it got a little annoying at times.
The middle level has a nice open floor plan, a large table, and an ottoman that has trays built in which worked great for the younger kids to eat while watching movies. It also has a nice sized bathroom and really nice tiled shower. The cleaning crew missed this bathroom when cleaning, so we arrived to a large hair ball in the bottom of the shower and a mess all over the toilet (looked like one that was still potty training made use of it the week before). While disappointing, I'm sure it was an oversight. We just didn't use this bathroom aside from hand washing.
The very top level was laid out very well and all 3 bedrooms and the bathroom were very clean, decorated perfectly and really functional. The wall lights in the bunk room wouldn't work and a tv in the bunk room would be a great addition, but tablets and a laptop worked just fine.
The absolute best part of Ooh La La, without a doubt was the outdoor space. The pool, oh the pool....perfection! The zero entry ledge was a great place to sit and get sun while staying cool and was great for our toddler. The pool was plenty big enough for all of us to be in it at once, many of us using floats and not feel crowded. We spent 80% or more of our time at the house in the pool. The poolside chairs were really nice and comfortable and the covered patio always had a great breeze coming through. The fire pit area was really great, though we never got to use it. The boardwalk to the beach is also really nice and we loved having private access. Stairs off of the boardwalk would be really nice, there is a pretty steep walk down the dunes in soft sand which made hauling our beach gear up and down really difficult which resulted in us not spending much time on the beach (reference back to amazing pool, we didn't mind not being on the beach much).
This house is really showing some wear and could use a bit of TLC. A lot of the furniture has major staining, especially on the screened porches. The outdoor couch on the middle level had several stains and is missing the pillow for the ottoman section. The round couch on the upper porch is also very stained and worn looking (I was so looking forward to sitting up there and reading a book while listening to the waves, but didn't want to get near it once I saw the condition). The patio furniture downstairs has seen better days. One of the chairs broke the first time we sat in it and the others look as if they could go at any time. We also found that many of the chairs around the table were loose, about to break, were already broken, or broke while we were there. One grill was rusty and really needs to be thrown out or replaced. The other was decent. Also, a couple of the chairs at the fire pit look like death traps. When we reported these concerns to the management company we were told the furniture is good furniture but not meant for everyday use. Confusing why this would be the choice for a rental.
We really did enjoy our week at the Cape, and our stay at Ooh La La. We will absolutely return to the area again next year, and won't hesitate to rent from Sunset Reflections again. However, without some upgrading of furnishings (or lowering of the price) we will not stay at Ooh La La again. We feel it is way overpriced when looking at similar properties.
